The time has come for another map.....
as i have finished my first map it would appear that i should make another one. what i need to know is if, and i know this has been asked of before, if there is a way to get more of the maps from the single player game. as i would like to make another map like my previous one. any help is welcome. the reason i ask is that i found a interesting program last year here is a link: http://www.filefront.com/15316631/GfxRip108.zip
it uses a screenshot to extract objects sounds strange to me, but i thought maybe someone here could make some sense of it. take a look at the readme. tell me what you think.

Yeah! Gfxrip is a tool for use with the Amiga emulator WinUAE the Amiga was an awesome machine really gave it to the atari_st back in the olden days
anyway basically it would appear to be a sprite tool that makes sprite sheets///sprites are a set of basic animations so you would have a character sprite for example facing forward/side on/backward ect/like cartoon frames.........there are a lot of tools that do this*** this one seems not that user friendly lol! but the WinUAE is the same only makes sense i guess
im not really clear on what you mean about getting the maps from the sp game if your asking to view the maps in lithtech dedit thats easy to do???

BVG and Monolith only released one SP map in a form we can edit. They also released 4 MP maps in an editable form, and a handful of prefabs.
That's it. That's all we have to work from. If you want to make a map: then either you have to take pieces from the existing maps and prefabs and put them in your own, or you have to get "creative".

Like Tronfaq said, there aren't many maps available from the toolset that you can use as a starting point. There are mechanisms by which you can grab lumps of geometry from existing tron 2.0 assets, but these don't work that well, and require an inordinate amount of faffing about before you start getting useable results.
Your best bet would be to start from scratch with your own idea/vision, just as cryogen and flogen have.

ok i posted this last year on tron sector and i am going to post it here and start work on parts of it
(this is a copy and paste)
me and tailmister had a COOL idea. i would need help from other map and single player mod developers' who made the beter of the maps (ie:most of them) in'clu'ding the best lc maps (there are to many to have all of them in my idia) and disc arenas.
any way me and tailmister wer talking last night and he helpd me with a vary good part of this idia.
what if we (by we i mean any one who will help) make a mod that implicates using multiplayer maps in single player and adding AI (if its not there already) and, make it like youre travleing to sed map developers computers and trying to find some one or some thing in the computer like another user or some thing and tailmister thot it would be cool if you try and rescue jereme (from user error). as a joke we say we shuold start in v-man home and make it smaller so youre the same size as the stuff and make a didgitizing pad in his bedroom closet and play as him lol
maby you could be jet or alan realizing some one has gone in to the computer with his password and locates him
we would put objectives and start and finish points in to maps and if each map maker made a start level for there comp like a storage bin sector whare you can go betwen maps like a hub that will represent there comp and we make a new web city areas for going in betwen there comps

i have made the hub that can be used to go to parts on a computer modeled after the DM_02 (don't remember SP level name) map and the corresponding SP level before it: thorn's perimeter partition. but myn will not be corrupted

im going to fill the bottom with the floor elements from the level with the same textures but in any color. and will put in the other objects re rendered for non corruption look. please tell me what you think.
oh yea btw when i say i will need help from map makers i would just have them add in some objectives to the maps if they wish to participate. this is not just trying to get map source i dont want it to sound like: hay give me your hard work so i can change it and say i did it. i dont want it to sound ilke i want your ltc files just the .dat's edited with objectives or just a start and finish to make it ez

Not the greatest motivator to join your mini-team. Perhaps you could prove your concept with some *very* basic maps?this will probly never work
Within certain limits, yes you can. That said, you need to be careful to not overload your map with geometry that's too complex for the engine to handle. Bear in mind that Tron 2.0 was released way back in 2003.does any one know if i can transfer the folowing file types

ok so i could cut up my big peice there and make it so its like it is in the ones in the game. would that solve the problem?
i am going to try to keep this simple so i may just make that spot i have for a hub with teleports there to other places that for now will be the other DM maps

ok well i will email them because i don't use blender i have turbo CAD 14.
i will finish it up one small problem tho: what scale in inches is a dedit unit 1/8'= 1DU or 1' = 1DU
EDIT: can you turn them in to objects so i can put them in as prefabs or objects?

I had to take my DWG and give it ito a friend to transfer it to 3DS, give it back to me, and it seemed to work then. There were a couple of inaccuracies in the .ltc file, but I could fix them. Even then, I had to try DXF, and SAT formats, which didn't work for me.
With 3DS and AutoCAD being much more complex than they were 5 to 10 years ago, I would recommend to save as earlier a version as you can.

Tron 2.0 Dedit units do not have a real world analogue (as per the tools dcoumentation "Using Dedit to Create Worlds"). That said, the player character can walk (without crouching) under a ceiling of about 112 dedit units, so assuming the character is 6 foot 0 inches tall, we have 112 DU = 6*12 inches = 72inches; therefore 1 DU = 72/112 = 0.64 inches (approx).what scale in inches is a dedit unit 1/8'= 1DU or 1' = 1DU

So far for the scaling in Dedit used in combination for Tron2.0, a TronChar seems to be a bit smaller then 128 Dedit-units. Expecting we're talking about a typical person with the height of, lets say, 1.80 meters, you could say that 64 units would be like 1 meter. At least that is the dimension i use for my maps. Maybe this can help.
P.S.: btw. about that fileformat-discussion: nearly most 3D-renderer can im- and export DXF or OBJ (if available) as far as i know. But then you just use a very plain format, that cannot contain many of these extra-information like material, animations, etc. If you just try to get pure geometry from one program to another, DXF or OBJ could be a choice. But if you can extend the import/export capabilities of your programs via plugins you should try to find an 'intersection'-format and use that first.

wink3 thanks for the math. turbo CAD uses inches for measurements, so i needed a basic idea of how to scale the building interior to the original partition from the game, and the outside will be closer to the part i cant see hopefuly

Well, you can only import .OBJ files into DEdit. And even then, it doesn't always work. Sometimes DEdit crashes.tronman63304 wrote:i did not know i could just import it to dedit
When you select a brush/object/prefab, DEdit shows you its dimensions in the bottom right corner. It's the numbers following an equals sign in brackets.can i see (in dedit) how long something is in dedit units?
