lol, I told ya! This thing has taken on a life of its own.

...an whats really sad is I still have to do all of the layered ring areas red glow stipcuts, an the 3d effect & cuts behind the command section on the carrier still... so prob about 500 more polys added to that by then. lol
Daddyo wrote: Maybe you could immortalize Steve Jobs behind the helm.
...nah, the MCP told me he didn't want Apple being able to track his mobile server in cyberspace an on its own systems, said it was just too weird and creepy.

...but as for the polys...like I said, I "might" have gotten carried away with the detail-work..... "might". lol

It [might] be possible to cut all those polys in half... [IF] I removed all the glow strip cuts and went back to a flat looking hull and made a custom texture for ever face instead of making glow strip cuts.
.....but thats a HELL of a lot of custom textures to make an place.

Remember, the fatal # of polies is 40k.

Is it strange that when I look at a screencap from DEdit I forget I can scroll wheel to zoom in on a section or rotate the geometry view?

I think the internet is lagging behind the mind!

As the model is not optimized right now, there are many faces which can be removed - i already had a peek into it and saw that. But on the other side (even removing those faces) while the geometry might be rebuilded for optimization reasons, new faces will be created, so it can be plus/minus calculation in the end.
Nevertheless, a full map with a total of about 25K polies should be absolute ok to play, but under the premise that the rest (like occluder and stuff) is set up right, so there is still enough buffer.

Ya, but as a model for backdrop use in a map, how would you rate it [as it stands unfinished atm] tho X?

As my main intention has always been to create a large pack of usable models for ppl to use in there own Dedit maps. As you guys know I have always felt that we needed some more TRON -or- TRON-related model resources on hand for mod/map makers to have access to to possibly speed up or help map makers.
Or just even to possibly stimulate new ideas for potential maps.

I am a fan of this idea. Prefabs are great and very useful, especially when built in an optimized fashion for adding to other maps. I really am surprised that there wasn't more support for Tron 2.0, even as a cult classic. The Devs could have added so many things as prefabs! I'll see what I can do to help this along!

Afternoon chaps

I've just taken a quick peek, and I wonder why you have pretty much all of the geometry under a single brush (ConnectingRingInnerCylinder)?

Seems odd, is all

[Ahead of time I appologise if this upsets anyone but I have to post this, as it NEEDS SAID]

:x :x :x :x
.......ok, I am posting this as a "LAST EFFORT" to keep work on this model going.
Because ATM I am about 95% ready to drop everything and stop work completely on this project because of the few ppl sending me emails daily about how my model is crappy an wont run/not to scale/etc.

...these emails coming directly to my email address off site must stop [IMMEDIATELY]!

THIS MEANS YOU "BOSSMCP297"!!
-SO STOP EMAILING ME YOUR EMAILS BITCHING about how "you wouldnt have done this... and wouldnt have done that" about EVERY LITTLE DAMN THING that you can spot on the carriers model!
- If you dont like my work build your own! Or at least make the effort to do some corrections an send them to me to SHOW me so I can fix the model errors that you spot! But "DO NOT JUST BITCH AND BITCH OVER AN OVER ABOUT ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING YOU CAN" and not contribute something to help! - YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS NOW PERMANENTLY BLOCKED FROM MINE!-
.
.
.

[sigh]... appologies. THAT NEEDED SAID here as I know he reads this! ...he says so daily in his mails.

I know that not everyone is doing this, an for those of you who are kindly waitin an just enjoying the progress updates...

Thank You for being so understanding and patient. I DEEPLY THANK YOU!

...I do understand that the model is taking a long time with it so close to being done and people are excited to see a release. IF you need it for a map, make a large placeholder box an texture it red or something to hold the spot for the carriers eventual location in your map.

Fans of this project have to understand tho... I am a single parent raising two kids alone while working.
An so ppl know and it is openly stated, I AM working on this whenever I possibly can find free time, but work is slowed alot atm, as I have ALOT going on at my end with PAID commission work on custom Halloween costumes that I do every-time this year for local ppl and with hand-drawn online artwork commissioned projects.

As a HOBBY, my Dedit mapping/modding "has to come last" after everything else that I have to do that must be done.

So PLEASE UNDERSTAND when I say...
====================================================================================
1. This is NOT a PAID commissioned work of ANY-KIND!
-So therefore it has [NO DEADLINE]! But it will be finished

2. I am doing this with "WHATEVER AVAILABLE FREE-TIME I CAN SPARE" as a free project for use by the community, with no intention for use by myself [at the immediate time]!
-So therefore it is FOR THE COMMUNITY AS A WHOLE, DONE AS A KINDNESS TO ALL OF YOU for only that reason in mind!

3. I scaled this using printouts, = ALOT OF THEM and taking measurements on the printouts- so it "IS AS CLOSE TO SCALE AS POSSIBLE"!

4. As to the accuracy of the models parts.
- I used the "most used" sections of the carrier as seen in the "majority of the shots in the movie" to come up with a general overall look for the carrier. This was done because if you REALLY look at the carrier in ALL of its in film shots it has ALOT of different looking parts throughout the films various shots.

5. I am rebuilding sections as I learn more to make it load faster/better.
-So this will be an ongoing project, but an alpha version release WILL COME IF PPL LEAVE ME ALONE

6. These emails trying to pressure me to finish sooner will no longer be tolerated.
-If they continue I will delete this project completely and you can go build your own damn carrier!

.
.
.

..again I do apologize but this needed said because of the the few ppl that have been emailing me [DAILY & DIRECTLY] and ranting about the bad model work, its quality, scaling, an jsut about ANYTHING else that you can imagine about it

I am PROUD of the model work I have done on this carrier project! I have spent more time learning to use Dedit "PROPERLY" than I EVER have before, an I didnt used to know to really do CRAP worth anything in Dedit!

...SO BACKOFF AN CUT ME SOME SLACK! IT will be done when its done RIGHT and I am content to make a public realease.

.......[grumbles]

You have the right attitude, dude.
You don't owe anyone here anything.
This is all for fun, and if anyone's "messing with your zen", then cut them loose.

BTW, I googled "BOSSMCP297" and got a straight-up no-matches-found type of message.
Looks like he's a nobody to me. Make something or shut up, right?

Now Google "hangmanexe" or "meatsack", and you'll get something interesting to read, at the least.
Google TRONFaq, and you get his compete online works! :P

I'm sure you already know this, but you have support here from people that know what you are feeling first hand. Haters are gonna hate, right? I, for one, would like to see the model when it's done, and the deadline is "whenever". Seriously, we're just TRON enthusiasts having fun here, right?

...ya pretty much what I felt to Meat. A wanna-be modder that just felt like tryin to throw his weight around. An get this, Boss "claimed" to have made several public Dedit related model forum threads for various "other" TRON 2.0 mod communities as well... [but he claimed he did it before me an I had copied him... which suprised me since as far as I knew I started that thread here, lol.... if someone looked it up in a search. lol
-which keyed me in fast as to him being a poser early on.

But I kept replying to his mails as it was at least the polite thing ot do since he was interested in my project. As ya ever know, who might turn around an surprise ya an be a master mod'r just waitin to happen...ya know?

...not gonna talk about some of the image results for meatsack..... rotflol... [dang, I forgot to re-enable my adult image block... "shivers at sick images assaulting my mind"]... lol

Well, I knew that all the LDSO guys an the mainstream posters here WOULD understand ....its just some ppl...[sigh]. lol

"APPARENTLY", the world has to revolve around them an they belive that their opinion and attitude governs ANYTHING about EVERYTHING!
Meatsack wrote:I, for one, would like to see the model when it's done, and the deadline is "whenever". Seriously, we're just TRON enthusiasts having fun here, right?
Oh, dont worry, the model WILL be finished bud, I am honestly trying to work on it whenever I can, as I am personally excited to see it finished. But depending on the ranting emails, I will or will not release it to the public.

But no worries I have a list of ppl that have helped me since I started messing with Dedit on my pc here [including but not limited too= "all" LDSO members, my bud Deeachur, "you meat" an about 7 others that had helped me with info, or comments, or Dedit learning tricks that will get a copy "regardless" if it is a public release or not.]

...as honestly, I think it looks AWSOME AS HELL looking an well designed ATM! Even if its still very rough still. :)

Ok, end of my rant, this issue will be delt with one way or another.

One hard lesson to learn about communities: you'll alsways have some 'freaks' there. They can be frustrating, and even no one can really understand why someone can feel better for himself, as he demoralize others.
But it is what happens many times. We here, at LDSO, just need to remember at the BoxHat-time (and i still think some of the most bothering persons of that time are still around somewhere, but powerless this time).

So don't get frustated or upset, just ingore them. Blocking them is already a good thing.

For your work i can just say: i like it, and whoever already tried to create something from the film, will know that they create different sized models and locations in size, so there is often no perfect scale possible (i realized it with 'the pit' and the 'mcp' maps).

Keep up the good work, bud. And as soon you have finish it, maybe i can have a final look to optimize some stuff. And for sure such a model will have a use, who says you have to take all part for an intresting map? You can delete faces to optimized and to build 'backgroumd', use it as import for other render programs, etc.

Smart mappers/modders should know: better to have a maximum, which you can reduce and scale down as vice versa. Or did someone ever tried to extend an existing model with faces and stuff (where subdividing alone doesn't help)?
What your 'sock puppet' tells in his emails, is crap.

Keep going!

Thanks X, I do app the backup from all of you. I knew you guys would understand. I kinda figured if they were heckling me... then they had done this before to others here as well.
Just dissapointed me tho that someone would set an sift HARD thru a free made project and then bitch an whine over anything to everything... especially since it was done FOR them and others who would want it. An even worse, it was done without it being requested an with my intention to share it with everyone out of the goodness of my heart
...seriously had me bummed me out an ticked me off at the same time. Kinda why I had been avoiding the forums an checking my emails for a few days.
xistence wrote:Smart mappers/modders should know: better to have a maximum, which you can reduce and scale down as vice versa. Or did someone ever tried to extend an existing model with faces and stuff (where subdividing alone doesn't help)?
That was basicly how I was going to do it X for the Derez build of the carrier, like you said.

Removing faces. I was basically just going to keep the outside shell ONLY of the long 3d face side, an the command sections outside an its command level deck an then the rest would basically be just inside only style enclosed shaped rooms inside it with the only outside areas being on the images I listed earlier. The command deck, an that 1 deathwalk catwalk that looks toward the command deck area, for our sniper wanna-be players. :)

As the other sides would be unneeded for the rest. I figured that would save me roughly about right under 1k pollys. As lets face it, the only rooms in the carrier were pretty basic shape designs. So there wouldn't be many things done in them except custom textures. An some animations to some textures.

I still wanna try my hang at making a Derez stage version of my carrier eventaully.; [pouts]...even if I cant use the MCP guards or null units in it... but I can still make it an place some items for ppl to enjoy fighting in it as a new Derez MP map.

...an never know maybe someone might use my model in a map for a backdrop item or something eventually. Which would make me very happy to see someday. As that was my intention all along, just something for us all to use and enjoy seeing that would improve things for us to have even more for all our map needs.

...to give us that extra level of imerssion to a map. ya know?

Hangman, as you know, you have my support. I agree that blocking undesired heckling is the smart choice. If the presence continues on the boards itself, know that the moderators will handle that issue, potentially cancelling the person's membership.

Your work is good, and we definitely know it is a not-for-profit, as it were, what with Buena Vista/Disney bailing on the Tron 2.0 community as a whole. While DEdit is an old program for world building, it at least has some venue through the existing Tron 2.0 game. WE, the fans, keep it alive!

Continue your projects at your pace, and it will eventually meet with fruition . . . Look at my YCP maps . . . how long have I been working on those, lost, rebuilt, relearned, etc? Interest waxes and wanes for projects like these, so keep going and ignore the Resource Hogs!

I suspect that's exactly what's going on here.

Hangman has already done the best thing he can do: listen to constructive criticism, and IGNORE the unreasonable criticism. It's easy to slag off someone else's work, when they have nothing better to offer themselves.

I think people tend to forget that these things are being done in people's spare time, for the fun of it, and often only because they have a passion for the subject matter. Then add in the fact that the support we got from Disney and Monolith was so poor, particularly on the modding side of things, that it's a miracle people are making anything even approaching the level of what Monolith created. But they are.

Your Carrier looks damn impressive already, and it's not even done yet. With the additional time needed to finish it, and your obvious perfectionist attitude, I'm sure it will end up being used as a prefab in many a future map.
