Re: Building FAQs
This goes along with an idea I was formulating at the end of my work day: prefabs available to the general public! I will start a new thread for Prefabs.

Re: Building FAQs
Just so you guys know: the proposed Wiki will have the ability to attach videos and files to a page. So if anyone comes up with a video, sample map, or prefab, it can supplement the tutorial text.
I've been working on implementing the Wiki. Though it's not quite as simple as I expected, it's not bad. The main issue is that the Wiki won't seamlessly fit in with the rest of the site. It will end up being more of a "it's own thing" than I wanted it to be. Maybe down the road I'll be able to do a better job of integration.

Re: Building FAQs
Okay, here's a screenshot of the WIP Wiki.

This is still very preliminary. I think I'm close to getting all the features/functions to work the way I want them to. But I still need to add articles and other content. Also, at first I'm probably going to have to forego customizing the template to fit in with the rest of the site. Otherwise, it will take a hell of a lot longer to get this thing up and running. I'll get around to making the template black/purple like the forum, later.
The way it should end up working is that if you're a member of the forum, you'll automatically be a member of the Wiki as well. Only members will be able to add or edit content.

Re: Building FAQs
That looks very cool FAQ! I cant wait to see it up an running.
Will there be a way to lock posts so that no others except LDSO founders can edit them further?
I ask as alot of ppl might add stupid crap for the fun of being stupid... ya know how some ppl are sometimes.

Re: Building FAQs
Certain pages will be locked at all times. For the rest, the Wiki keeps a history of every edit made. If someone edits a page and adds something stupid, the page can be reverted to an earlier version before the crap was added.
Also, stuff like HTML/JavaScript/PHP code isn't allowed so there's no way to inject the Wiki with some kind of malware. You can only use Wiki markup.

Re: Building FAQs
PERFECT news to hear FAQ!!! I am extremely looking forward to this Wiki going active.
I would like to inquire tho. Will this be a General Tron 2.0 Wiki? OR specifically a TRON 2.0 Dedit based wiki? Or broken up to cover both?

Re: Building FAQs
Well, I'm certainly not trying to compete with the already existing TRON Wiki. This one will be focused on the technical aspects of the game. I want to move my old Unofficial FAQ into Wiki form and update it, and also have the new Editing section.

Re: Building FAQs
Here's another screenshot.

I think I've got everything pretty much working the way I want it to, now. But rather than leave the Wiki barren, I'm adding some content to it before it gets added to the site. For example, I threw together this page that contains a brief writeup about the history of LDSO. Though everything will be subject to revision later. (The LDSO page will be locked to anyone who isn't a team member, mind you!)

Re: Building FAQs
Ditto!!
First thing I am gonna post is how to do alpha layers, an I believe Dee is gonna post another method for it. As I belive that is a hard step to get past when learning Dedit... well for some of us... [rolls eyes an whistles innocently]
...but not me mind ya! lol

Re: Building FAQs
Well, I might have something ready to go by the end of next week. (No promises, though.) In theory, I should just be able to send all the files to Load and it shouldn't be too much trouble for him to get it working. I deliberately went for a solution that was as painless as possible to set up.
The only catch will be the template, which is just too much work to overhaul in the short term. So for a while the Wiki will be white/grey and won't match the black/purple on the rest of the site. But eventually I'll get that done, too.

Re: Building FAQs
Good to know, FAQ!
I'm not so sure I have a new technique, since I haven't put it to work. If you have tried it and it works, feel welcome to add it! Can you confirm the following works?
Step 1: Master texture layer
Step 2: Select layer and Duplicate and label as "alpha"
Step 3a: If color, convert alpha layer to B/W or define transparent areas in black
Step 3b: If B/W, invert alpha layer
Step 4: convert alpha layer to an actual alpha layer
Remember:
White = opaque
Gray = semi-transparent
Black = transparent
