I love Disc Golf. It's a shame that none of the servers run it.

TronFAQ: I actually had that issue in mind when I came up with those map ideas. That's why the multiplayer map has no AI and the single player map has mass AI. lol

not to reopen an old topic but on my new map i have no limit to ai in the map and it has only crashed once and all the ai were gone by that time im not having lagg problems i dont know much a bout this at all but at one point i had 30 or more ai at one time and 2 other people on with me :?:

Depends on your system and the strength of your machine. But did you check your map just locally (so starting it with the testmode of DEdit?) or also as client on a server that is not yours? The most difference in performance will arise if you are a visitor on someone others server. Things like AI, keyframed or moving/rotating stuff are synchronized between all clients all the time (which don't have to be done in singleplayer) and that contains lots of networktraffic that makes the map laggy. So you won't have problems in singleplayer (and the testmode of DEdit runs in singleplayer-mode) but in multiplayer. You should make more decent test to be sure, it is recommend to let you map be hosted by a friend of yours so you can visit his server to see if there are lags or something.

ok i havent done that but i never ran it from test mode on dedit it never worked for me

i do have a rather nice machine 4core amd 64 bit prosesor 2.20 MHz 6gbs of ram HP pavilion with vista

The speed of your machine isn't as important as the speed of everyone's connection. In a Multiplayer map, everyone is only as strong as the weakest link. Whoever has the slowest connection with the highest ping will cause everyone else to slow down as well, as the server accommodates that person's networking performance.

With Multiplayer maps, too many of anything is bad. Too many moving objects, or too many AI. For every player that joins the map, the server has to synchronize and keep track of all the objects on everyone's computer. If you think about it, the effect will grow exponentially with every new person that joins.

Eventually, this will start to cause dramatic lag as the server struggles to keep track of all these moving objects, and then it will finally crash. There's one particular Derez map that allows unlimited AI, and as the AI are allowed to spawn out of control the result is always the same. The game starts to lag badly, then crashes. This happens every time.

To be honest, we shouldn't even be using AI in Multiplayer maps. The game wasn't designed or tested to support AI being used in Multiplayer. We've been cheating when we add AI to the maps, since Monolith didn't put in measures to prevent this from being done.

We've been breaking the rules. But rules are meant to be broken. :D However, we have to be careful about how we break those rules. Keep the moving objects and AI in check. Don't go crazy with them.

i will put in a resonable limit then say 15 max on a 4 person server (or more?)

If you go to the Properties of the WorldProperties object in the map, at the bottom there's a field named AIMaxNumber. This tells the game the maximum number of AI to allow in the map.

The default is 30, but I would drastically reduce that number to something like 10 for Multiplayer.

yea i know about the max number and i know the basics of map making i just don't have the command lines for the program to know how to do some things once i know that i will have much better maps

i will set it lower in the next one i put out
