Re: TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools
Today, for the 30th Anniversary of the release of the original TRON film, I'm releasing another updated version of the Self-Installing Tools.
Changes in v1.2
Changes in v1.2
- The installer now checks if TRON 2.0 is running, and will abort the install if this is the case. The game must not be running during installation.
- Fixed an issue where the online check, to see if a newer version of the Editing Tools is available, did not always work.
- Fixed an issue where a part of the install process could fail, if a file the installer is dependent upon is missing from your Windows installation.
- DEdit, ModelEdit, FXEd, the RenderStyles Editor, WaveEdit, WinRez LT, and XN Resource Editor have all had their shortcuts set to use Administrator privileges, to avoid issues when UAC is turned on in Vista and Windows 7.
- Added an option to skip extraction of the TRON 2.0 game assets, if you've already used a previous version of the tools.
- Added an option to extract files from the Killer App Mod, if you want to create maps that take advantage of its additional features.
- By default, after extraction, some folders with assets did not show in DEdit while other folders would show up that were empty. Missing folders with valuable content now appear in DEdit, while empty useless ones do not.
- Enabled a setting in DEdit that causes the viewport camera to maintain a correct aspect ratio, when editing on widescreen monitors.
- Added the Sark Carrier example map/prefab by HangmanEXE.
- Other minor changes.

In my day we didn't need these fancy R,G,B, LCD an 3D colors!
A program was happy to process 15 megacycles just to get to use monochrome display! You program's today wouldn't know a hard microcycles work if it came up and derez'd ya from behind!

Re: TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools
I'll download this tonight when I'm home.
Do you recommend uninstalling the old tools and Tron 2.0 first?
Since the YCP_HQ map is almost finished, I'll ensure to have some more prefabs and "prefabs" available for public use, and then YCP_HQ can be included in the total map pack.

Re: TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools
While you can just install the newer version of the tools over top of the old, I'd recommend uninstalling the old version first. As you uninstall, when it asks if you want to delete the Game folder, just make sure you say "No" and not "Yes" by accident. I don't want to be responsible for you losing your work!
And, just to be on the safe side, I'd make a backup of your Game folder before doing anything. In theory, uninstalling and then installing the new tools should go smoothly. Especially if you skip all the extraction processes. Otherwise, it will overwrite any modified versions of the extracted files with the original ones. On the other hand, new custom content with new filenames should be safe when extracting.
After all that, your project work should be intact and you'll have the latest updated tool set. I tested the updated v1.2 tools very stringently before release, this time. But, again, play it safe and make a backup first.

Making a backup goes without saying! I already have that covered, but I appreciate the advice!

Just making sure that anyone out there reading, will make a backup before attempting anything.
Again, I can almost guarantee nothing will happen and things will go as expected. I put a lot of effort into testing the tools, this time. But I don't want people coming back later saying they lost their work because of something that went wrong.

Made the backup, uninstalled toolset and Game folder. Reinstalled, and works like AWESOME!
I don't even have to re-select the Tron.DEP file when loading DEdit! W00T!
TronFAQ, you ROCK!

Re: TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools

Download the Editing Tools
The TRON 2.0 Self-Installing Editing Tools has been updated again. Once more, it's the same fix in this installer, for the issue that prevented the Tools from installing correctly if the language in Windows was not set to English. You'll only really want to grab this v1.2a version if English is a second language for you.
There are also a couple of other minor changes. A fix for the installer aborting after choosing to skip extraction, if a previous existing extraction was done improperly. And, now on uninstall, you are informed that WinREZ LT Studio and XN Resource Editor must be uninstalled separately.
