Running some Killer App Mod Servers

It's really difficult to say at this point whether or not Evolution will dampen the interest in 2.0. Probably for a few months, while the novelty of Evolution hasn't worn off yet.

I figure it will eventually be a case of extremes. Either people will completely lose interest in 2.0 because of Evolution, or they'll discover or prefer 2.0 because they're not impressed with Evolution. I don't think there will be too much of a middle ground.

All I can say for sure is that the multiplayer in 2.0 and Evolution are really quite different from each other, except for Light Cycles. And even then there a significant differences. Evolution doesn't make 2.0's MP completely obsolete or irrevlevant.

Hey all.
I hung out on some of the K.A. servers for about 60 - 90 min tonite, starting aroung 2 or 3 am. Only one other person ever showed up, and that was in non-K.A. retail map lightcycles.
I'm thinkin K.A. looks pretty darn cool. Don't understand why EVERYONE isn't running it; guessing folks NOT running it just don't know about it. That and the map packs.
Anyhow, I'll go back in to check in awhile.
Anyone know what's up with the TronLink app? I can't seem to find a place to download it. That sounds WAY better than idling in the game server list waiting ... waiting ... waiting ...

Why not enable spectator discs? PLEASE?? It would make the waiting SOOOO much less boring. I understand that years ago some people were jerks when they had spectator discs, but with the apparent few of us that want to play these days, I'm betting that wouldn't be a problem anymore.

Also, while wating in a Derez server, I noticed other programs showing up. I thought they were other human players. They were A.I. programs. I don't remember that ever working in the past. Is that a new thing?? If so, pretty darn cool.

Bingo, that's exactly why. People just don't know it exists or what it does.

In fact, I've seen a lot of people dusting off Tron 2.0 and posting Youtube videos of themselves playing. Nine times out of ten, they're playing the game unpatched and didn't think to check for any widescreen fix or any kind of mod whatsoever. Probably because they don't think there are any.

Yup, some maps have AI bots added by the map makers.

Sorry 'bout posting the spectator discs request twice. I started a new thread about it because the post I made in this one concerning it was, well, buried in this thread. I wanted more visibility for my request. sorry
There's got to be some way to increase the visibility of K.A., the map pack, and User Error. I endeavor to tell folks when I see 'em in non-K.A. games methinks.
Oddity ... Three (3) times yesterday, I saw people in a server, went in and said, "Hello" and they immediately disappeared. Darn shame, that ... one time i even exited the game to disable K.A. so i could go into a standard server. whoever it was waited to leave til i got back.
oh well.

Sure.

If you have a software firewall, allow both Lithtech.exe and Tronsrv.exe in the Tron 2.0 folder full access to the internet.

If you have a router, go to portforward.com and click on your brand/model of router in the list. After that, click on "Click here to skip this advertisement" in the top right corner. Now click on F.E.A.R. in the list.

Follow the instructions. Though you must add the port 27889 to both the TCP and UDP settings. So "27888,27889" for TCP and UDP.

After that is done, run Tron 2.0 and go to Multiplayer, then Host. Set LAN Only to No and Dedicated Server to No. You might also want to change the Server Name. Click the Game tab and select the game mode you want to host. Click the Maps tab, and Add the maps you want to play. Then click Launch.

Now you should be hosting a server from within the game, that other people can join. As long as they have the mod and the maps that you do.


If you want to stop CD-Key checking so that people with pirated versions of Tron 2.0 can play (naughty, naughty ), I posted instructions in this message. However, the IP address of the Gamespy master server has changed to "69.10.30.248".
