Re: Tron Evoloution Game All platforms thread
Wii and PC always get shoved aside in favor of the 360 and PS3, whenever the Tron Evolution game gets discussed anywhere. (I know PC is mentioned on the official site, but it's hardly ever mentioned anywhere else.)
As for the Wii version, it's going to be a much different game from the others. It's being made specifically for the Wii, while the other three versions are all pretty much identical. The Wii version will be multiplayer only with Disc battles and Light Cycle racing in arenas.
I also think the Wii version may be coming out later than the others, which is why it's not available for pre-order yet. But not sure about that.

Re: Tron Evoloution Game All platforms thread
thank you much, tronfaq. with all my kids i don't get as much time to game as i used to, and am subsequently relegated to what they play (i.e. wii) i'm not complaining- my little girls rock, but always tryin' to find my angle around. am having fun playing the light bike game on official tron site right now.. and apparently there will be a full online offering now, as stated on the site ((gives option to play online (says coming soon) or light cycles..)) has anyone heard about this online game before now? sorry if i spaced something that is already common knowledge but is this something akin to a WoW or second life?
okay sheesh, wrote all that from miPod

Found this article over at IGN, which has had good TL updates, all round:)
E3 2010: Tron Evolution: Battle Grids
The Wii gets its own version of the movie.

by Craig Harris
I am absolutely stoked for the theatrical release of Tron: Legacy, so I'm pretty excited to see how Disney represents that movie world in game form for Tron Evolution. For the Wii, the company is offering a more competitive game than an adventure with Tron Evolution: Battle Grids where players compete in familiar Tron games against other opponents.
In the E3 demo, there were two Light Cycle challenges: arena and races. In the arena it's the traditional Light Cycles where players draw walls of light behind their cycle to cause other players to smack into them for a kill. Using the Wii remote held classicly, players can drive their car with slight leans but also turn 90 degrees by tapping that direction on the D-pad. If you find yourself heading to a wall you can thrust the Wii remote up and leap over the hazardous obstacle.
The race felt very much like F-Zero. You'll drive your light cycle over power boosts and jump across chasms, and instead of having 90 degree turns you can nudge your vehicle left and right to smack drivers who get a little too close for comfort.
The visuals looked good on Wii with the upcoming movie's digital style. Characters look a bit more cartoony than the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions, but it's great to see the recognizers and solar sailers whizzing by as you drive the light cycles around. The controls really do need a bit of a tweak, though, as the tilt sensor seemed to be a little off-sensitive.

A program was happy to process 15 megacycles just to get to use monochrome display! You program's today wouldn't know a hard microcycles work if it came up and derez'd ya from behind!

Looks like I won't be able to run the PC version, as I only have Windows XP. Oh well. The reviews haven't stoked me enough, anyway. I guess I'll relegate myself to YouTube videos for scenery references, and definitely X's awesome Legacy map!

The game works on XP. It only requires DirectX 9 so it doesn't need Vista/7.

Ok. Cool. If Best Buy still has that $30 price on the PC version, it should be worth it, otherwise, maybe I'll wait until it is cheaper.

Re: Tron Evoloution Game All platforms thread
I think we all know no matter how good or mediocre the game ends up, we'll all still end up buying it! At least for the graphics & soundtrack. Reading a few of the reviews, it doesn't sound all that bad, they all seem to enjoy the visuals, which is a good part of what Tron's about anyway (at least to me).
I remember getting Tron 2.0, amazed by the graphics, but burned out on multiplayer in an hour or so,then put it away for a couple years. Then I came back and finally got something significant out of it. So I'll see what happens with this one. No modding stinks, so that pulls out the stops for doing more Tron 2.0 mods, and there's still potential for doing interesting things with coop maps that are tied together by doing some server tricks (like trigger server error messages (falling speed > big #) that something like the MCP server manager uses to switch to specific maps).
Maybe X will have his game running, which to me has the potential of being the penultimate digital gaming universe.
I do like the idea of capture the flag, hope it works well. And everyone always wanted to drive the tanks right?

It does not look like there will be dedicated servers. Gamerservers.com does not have any pre-sale information on Tron.

Yup, it's peer-to-peer only via Games for Windows Live. No dedicated server client.
