Tron at Disney California Adventure this Fall

For anyone who has access to Disney California Adventure park this Fall, it looks like they will re-work the summer's glowfest into elecTRONica. I'm looking forward to seeing the arcade in the old Millionaire building. Hopefully, if Tron is a huge success, it will stay there for a long time! The new version of this nighttime street party, to be designed and staffed entirely in-house by the Entertainment Department, currently has the working title “ElecTRONica”. The theme will play up the new TRON movie to be released this Christmas, and some of the same folks from the Studios who pulled off some of the TRON marketing stunts at recent ComicCon events down in San Diego have been consulted for the DCA version. Several elements of the popular Glow Fest will be re-used, like the street team dancers, the go-go girls, and the very successful cocktail bars set up in the middle of the street. ElecTRONica will also use the old Millionaire building in the back of the Hollywood section, to house a TRON themed video arcade. Disneyland’s Entertainment Department is working feverishly on this one, as they want to ensure that their version of this street party is more successful than the outside contractor’s version was, if only to convince the TDA executives to never again use an outside group to provide in-park entertainment. (And those divas have been busy online too, making sure everyone knows what they're doing.)

It's over in the Hollywood backlot area in between the Muppets 3-D building and the Monster's Inc ride. The show closed back in '04.

Yup, I heard that the internal promotional team at Disney were, shall we say, "envious" of 42 Entertainment and want to beat them at their own game by handling the elecTRONica event.

I wish them luck, because the whole Tron Legacy ARG is probably one of the best film marketing campaigns ever done. But let's see what Disney themselves come up with. Looking forward to hearing more about elecTRONica in the future.

I think the ARG marketing was great for fans, comicon types, and ARG followers, but how much of it reached out to the 'little people'? For instance if you told an acquaintance about the ARG, i'd be willing to bet they haven't heard of it (because nobody I know has, for that matter was interested, spare possibly 1).

I don't think they can ever beat television ads. Of course it's too early for TV. But they could be alot cheaper. When/if they ever couple TV/radio with ARGs then I think they'll explode, possibly unhandlable.

I'm not familiar with this source, so everything here is considered rumor, but some interesting news about Tron and Disney California Adventure. This would be great if it is true, but there are so many rumors, what can we really believe...heck, Mor and I hear all kinds of rumors from cast members at Disneyland/DCA. We could easily report, sources close to the situation report that Tron will be featured as a new attraction in Tomorrowland at Disneyland. hmmm...of course...that could be true...hmmm

Finally, I mentioned last week that a cast member publication also shows the closure of what was listed only as "muppet" on September 15 & 16, and again September 20-24. A cast member reader says the closure is to install and test a new film for the upcoming (but not yet confirmed by Disney) ElecTRONica promotion. During ElecTRONica, Muppet*Vision 3D will be presented in the theater during the day, and an eight-minute 3D trailer for TRON: Legacy (the same one shown at the San Diego Comic-Con International convention) will be shown in the theater at night.

Hope this pans out, it would make for a nice evening at the DCA

I went by the area a week ago and nothing yet was visibly done. Worker bee said end of month. Only thing up was a Tron Legacy poster inside a fake movie shop window, I took a picture and will upload sometime.

Cool. I found an area at california adventure, something like the 'wine barrel' at the restaurants in the middle that showcases future rides etc, but it showed nothing of tron.

ah, yeah, that's the Blue Sky Cellar. It showcases all the upcoming attractions. I have a feeling that everything showcased there is what was budgeted in the big DCA overhaul (cars land, world of color, little mermaid, etc). I think Disney was so surprised at the success of glow fest. I remember reading that it would just something to occupy the people who didn't get in to see World of Color. Luckily it was hit...and now we get Tron.
