Wii version / PC version

Post by Jizaboz »

I was suprised to see this:
Image

Notice the Wii controller in the middle? I was thinking this was going to be PC, xbox, and Ps3 only so that's kinda neat because the only newer console I own is Wii.

But come to think of it.. is there any confirmation anywhere that there WILL be a PC version?

There is a PC version. But Disney and Propaganda are being dicks, either downplaying or completely neglecting to mention the fact that it exists. Seems it's not important enough to merit being worth a mention whenever they're asked. (With that kind of attitude, you can be sure there will be no modding support whatsoever.)

It's also not clear if the PC version is coming out at the same time as the console versions. They might pull the typical stunt of delaying the PC version by up to a month.

I was expecting Tron Evolution to be a Games for Windows Live title because Disney is so pally with Microsoft, but there's been no GFW Live logo in any promotional materials. So it looks like they're not going to bother. They also probably won't put it on Steam, because they haven't released any of their other recent games (like Split/Second) there either. Since they're not using GFW Live or Steam, this makes me wonder how they're going to implement Multiplayer. The only option I can see is that they'll use Gamespy again (blech).

There's also a Tron mouse and keyboard coming out.

Image

DO WANT. They're being made by Razer. But the mouse is $99 and the keyboard is $129, which is completely insane. The prices would have to come down to say, half that, before I'd buy them.

Thank you for the solidifying the info TronFaq. Good to know. I would expect a delay with the PC version as well. Perhaps for multiplayer they will host their own master server and allow players to run dedicated server? That would be ideal, but sadly few companies are letting people run their own servers these days. Even John Carmack is saying the day of the player-run dedicated servers is coming to an end.. which does make me lost a bit of respect for the guy.

First some juicy links if you have not seen them already:
The fast company site has a better game play demo video than G4,
Made me like the game a bit better

http://www.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=67213

http://www.fastcompany.com/1662302/new- ... pside-down

http://www.hitfix.com/articles/2010-6-1 ... c-con-2010

I have been reading some of the press releases,
From what I have read they seem to be equally stating that the new Tron game will be on all platforms.

I did read that Wii will have the Battle Arenas game, compared to the Evolution game for all other platforms.
Cool in one respect but sucks on another. Could prove some interesting online play, but it would have been cool to have the entire game for Wii as well. The other thought on Wii having a different version than all the others is, what if its the best version of the game, and its only on Wii ??? At least Wii got a cool controller, and yes I will be picking up a couple for my Wii.

As far as the pc version,
Its hard to say that Disney wont be promoting it as much as the others.
Why would they get a quality manufacturer as Razor to make a top notch keyboard and mouse based with pre- programed hot keys for the game, and then even go as far as to be releasing a $249.00 pc headset??
I guess if they dont give love to the pc version, at least they gave us all lots of love with hardware for it.
Pricie, yes. Cool, very.

From all the love we got for 2.0, it would be very Disney for them to say whatever about the pc version, but heres some cool pc hardware for it that lights up, go buy that. . . :|

Currently not sure how your all feeling,
But after a lot of the E3 and toy press releases,
I personally am a bit concerned that Disney is once again biting off way more than they will be able to chew.
Literally they are releasing something tron based in just about every form of merchandise you can think of. From actual boots for your feet to every type of mp3/Apple I/pod/phone/pad accessory you can imagine.
At this point Im sure there will even be black condoms w/ blue/green/orange/gold/red/ you name colored glow in the dark neon Tron related stripes.

Is this Disneys idea of trying to make evry possible buck off of this? (Probably)
Or is this Disneys way of saying, See you complained, you begged for 25 years, we gave, you no buy, Epic fail, we told you so, no more tron ever, leave us alone about it.

Time will tell

Mor

PS, next we can all chat about the lovely toy line. . . ::::)

The stuff looks intresting, tho i have to ask myself how many hours i play in the evening so that the glow-effect of such an expensive keyboard will come to an effect. For the rest: whoever is such a great fan, he should get lucky with that, i don't begrudge it to anyone. For myself it is a bit too much, in the end that 'thingy' should be useful for something.

I think the release of the PC-version will be, as most times, just an adapted version made for consoles, so it will not have, in some ways, the quality it could have for PC. Not only talking about the GFX, as the current console-generation is very powerful, but about controls, handling, gameplay, there might be probs. I'm not a console-player at all, i like to point my view with my mouse where i want, instead of 'swing into' position (also i know there are different possible controls these days, but the engine must support it, not sure if Big D will spent the time and money for implementation), or i have to walk and act on 'railways'. But surely a point of view.

That merchandising 'landslide' is typical for Big D, as typical that they are just looking on making money with thousands of little thing, instead with the product directly. Their marketing strategy for special things like Tron in the past, was most times a big fail in my opinion. Lets see what they made out of it this time, but following the past i don't expect good support of communities and fan-bases, they don't expecting money there, as it seems.

And for multiplayer i see no good future. My personal experience is, that there are still hundredthousands of pps playing online, also with dedicated server, if supported. The decision to say 'it is dead' was not made by those players i assume, it was a marketing decision, to force pps to buy more new stuff, instead just sitting there playing the same stuff again and again. Money lies in selling DLC's, itemsales and in controling what pps do online, otherwise why are all companies are pulling the players out of the neutral internet into their own formed networks like for PS3, WII, Windows, etc. ? I deny that it has so much to do with software piracy, because it is still there and still growing, so i deny it has something to do with a 'better support' or 'greater features'.

I can just hope that in the end Big D offers some options for all players to make their own stuff or to fix things (as Big D surely won't do it). And that we can host our own games, not that if Gamespy, or a Disney-Masterserver is shut done just after year, the game is 'derezzed'.

Just my two cents about it

We are forgetting that McDonalds will probably have Tron related Happy Meal Toys. They are generally the place to get they high end children merchandise. I can't wait for a lightcycle hotwheel with the smell of chicken nuggets to play with.

I'm also looking forward to those Tron condoms. Nothing says "Protect your I/O tower from unwanted viruses" than TRON!

McDonalds and Disney are one the outs. It's all over Dreamworks splitting from "Big D" (I like that, Thanks X!), I think, but look for the TRON toys to appear in Burger King instead. Wherever it happens, I'm gonna get fat(ter) collecting those bits. (See what I did there?) :p

Actually, I hope not. If Disney hadn't arranged for Gamespy to run Tron 2.0's master server, we'd be in the same boat as NOLF2 and AvP2 players. Vivendi/Sierra shut down their master servers for those games.

If Disney is responsible for running the master server, they'll inevitably end up shutting it down like those other publishers did.
allow players to run dedicated server?
I highly doubt it. Based on what I found out about the Multiplayer in Tron Evolution, it doesn't really exist as a separate mode. While playing Single Player, there are areas where - if you choose - you can connect to other players and compete with them in 5 vs. 5 matches. If you don't bother with that, the game will replace what would have been other players with AI opponents and you will be none the wiser that Multiplayer even exists.

So Tron Evolution doesn't have a traditional Multiplayer mode, it's more like a Single Player/MMO hybrid. I expect this form of Multiplayer to be peer-to-peer, without using dedicated servers at all.
That would be ideal, but sadly few companies are letting people run their own servers these days. Even John Carmack is saying the day of the player-run dedicated servers is coming to an end.. which does make me lost a bit of respect for the guy.
Yeah, it's a disgusting trend. It's all about taking control away from the players, in the name of profit.

And Carmack's remarks about dedicated servers no longer being important, along with how supporting modding efforts is no longer really worthwhile, has really diminished a lot of people's respect for him.

Greetings Programs

I just wanted to reply to this post an provide a bit of info about the controllers for PS3. I picked mine up on the first of this month an took it for a test drive.

TRON PS3 Collectors Controller Review
-----------------------------------------------------------
I found that the ONLY complaint was, I couldnt stop wondering why my hands seemed HUGE holding it. this was due to the controller being just a [touch] smaller than the standard PS3 controllers. but other than that it worked like a dream... an I looked forward to each an every chance to see it in the dark, maybe a lil too much. :)

The foam-like grip was very nice when playing for extended periods. the sticks were good, [not too tight or loose- this may be diff depending on how your personal likes regarding your R/L sticks to be]

Also for noting the R2/L2 buttons had a extender lip that made them easier to hit.

...overall I think the only complaint that others may have is the lack of it being a wireless controller, but again this problem can be overcome with a extender cable.
