Computer internet issues

Some of you may remember me posting earlier that my computer would not connect to the internet. My connection is set up as follows:

COAX goes to cable modem
LAN cable goes from modem to router.
Another LAN cable goes from the router to the computer.

I had everything plugged in and Windows said nothing was plugged in. I figured it was a bad cable, so to make sure, I plugged the LAN cable coming from the router directly into the computer (rather than going through the router), same problem.

So today, I took my computer into Best Buy for Geek Squad to look at. Lets just say, I have a new archenemy.

The guy plugs in the machine, bumping it into his desk 5-6 times. He plugs it into Best Buy's network with a LAN cable and it connects to the internet, wtf. Then, he opens up the computer while it's running to see if the fans are working correctly. How does he figure this? Simple: He puts his finger on the fan while it's running and lets go, and responds with "it works, and you can't return it because it's been 14 days".

I'm yet to plug the thing back in. Hopefully it'll work. :(

lol. but not funny. let us know if you find the prob. I suggest you harass your cable guys. see if they connect to the modem properly, like I said b4. then, replace cables.

Well, the cable modem has a LAN cable that goes directly into the router, therefore allowing wired and wireless devices to connect to the internet. I've tried several cables, it's really weird. It's definitely not a modem problem, as I can connect to the internet wirelessly fine.

No, I'm able to connect my Wii system to the internet through the router just fine.

Your skills is toast.

So, what happens when you go straight to the PC from the modem?

YES!!!!1!!111!!!ONE!!

Works now. If it happens again, I'll know what to do:

Turn off
Unplug
Shake well
Plug back in

That's what I did, lol

Sorry, couldn't resist.

I don't know if you were referring to me when you said Super-Mario, but I found out what the problem was a while back. Turns out the LAN output port on the PC itself is, well, strange...

It hasn't done that as frequently as it used to, though, so everything's been working awesome. :D

It's Max the Rabbit from the episodic point-and-click Sam & Max games. Based on some comic book I think.

There's a free Sam & Max game on Steam, called Abe Lincoln Must Die, which is what Sweaty's avatar is from.
