It's a pretty neat idea. I've seen it done differently, but the concept is still pretty much the same. Here's my short list of what they should add:
1.) Other sound banks besides the TR808. Those sounds are overused in electronic music anyway.
2.) Adjustable tempo.
3.) An wider interface so that you can include 16th notes instead of just 8th notes.
4.) A separate machine that hooks up to that one that supplies bass notes so that you can compose entire rhythm sections with it.
(Not to hijack your thread, Layer, BUT...)
I might have mentioned it on this site before, but THIS is truly the most impressive music gadget I've ever seen:

My cousin saw Bjork live, and they had one of these on stage. It's pretty awesome.
