A few months ago, I started an audio project called A.M.A.R.A., which stands for Algorithmic Modulation And Resonance Analysis. The purpose of the project was to have people send in random sounds and samples which I would use in my audio "experiments" (time stretching, stuttering, glitching, frequency manipulation, etc.). I want to create an entire album out of the contributions of others in this open source audio project. Everyone will receive credit for their contributions.
If you are interested, you can e-mail WAV, MP3, or other sound files at the following address:
sound analysis (one word) at G Mail dot com (sound it out...don't want the bots picking it up). Please put your forum username in the subject field of your e-mail so that I know it's from one of you.
I hope to hear from some of you. Your contribution can be anything from a spoon tapping on a tabletop to a collage of industrial noises. Everything will be used in some form or another.
A.M.A.R.A.

You can take impulse responses of anything, and use that to modulate stock stuff. It puts your sound in the environment that the impulse was recorded in. I quickly flicked a wine glass and recorded it, but could be done with metal sheets, wood, hallway, anything, even a car crash sound might work... When you convolve it with your input, it sounds as if your talking inside the wine glass etc. You can even run a very fast pulse through amplifiers, reverbs, speakers you like, or anything electronic & record that, so that you capture the sonic characteristics of it. Maybe pick a guitar string. Or reversing the impulse sounds really cool. Very powerful method. And if you convolve regular sounds together, it gets nuts.
I think this is a good program to use http://www.voxengo.com/product/pspace/

Avi don't rely only on a tron forum. I hope u will try on KVR or any "big" music communites. U also could try at Combinator HQ. Maybe u will find there people too for ur project. I know it's hard to find buddies who are interested for the same thing.
I was not lucky sofar. My only mate was Wolfang (back in highshool times) when we created songs in Dss, Pro-tracker or TFMX together (on Amiga). Both had the same taste too & we admired Chris Huelsbeck, Allister Brimble, Olof Gustafson & many more Amiga Musicans for their skills to get out everything of the 22khz, 8bit with only 4 channels soundship inside the Amiga. Then after ....it was arround 2003/2004 a guy who lives my place aswell, named Harry, has found me on a music-forum (traumatic.de). He was suprised to find someone from Austria in a place where people from Germany usualy keep visiting. First i praised god for have found a music bhuddy like him. He seemed to have the same musical nevers like me & he put much effort into organizating everything we needed for our music project. After a few months i experienced alot of dissapointments. 1) he then told me he wants to earn money with remixing & we need to do this for our musicproject to get better contacts inside the music industry - 2) then we remixed an old italo dancehit from mid-80s called Comanchero. His bhuddy was a Pro-dj & he did own the rights so we could have hit into the Austrian club-charts. - 3) Then i released he not only must have have planned everything from the beginning to lure me to a different "remix" project i didn't wanted from my heart as i love to create my own soundscapes & not to remix nor to go mainstream & lust but least 4) i was the only one who put more effort into the remix-project. He in the meanwhile enjoyed clubs & discos on each weekend to find the or other girl for a good eerrrrr u know what.
So then we had to split. His engagement was pretty like nothing at the end. Maybe he thought in me a producer-slave while he get's the cash & manages everything with his bhuddy. U will never know but thanks to this experience i become very careful. I think in america it must be harder to find people who love to make music without the focus to become a popstar. Of course i too plan alot with my project & i want to have shared my future albums worldwide but i can do this thru internet with virtual albums aswell. To invest into cd-production isn't neccesary anymore. We live in a decode of mp3, quicktime, ipdos & co. And there are many people who hunt for nobodies music who sound similar to certain "famous"musicans. They hunt for because they know a nobodies music can satisfy more than a mainstream artists/dj sound.
However i wish u all the best for ur project. In ur case it should be easier as u only search for many people with little contribution. But in case of seeking for fixed band or project members it can be very hard until find the right one/s.

I'm not looking for "members" to start a group...I'm just interested in the sounds that other people experience everyday in their homes that I'll never hear. I want to take those foreign sounds and shape them into ambient backdrops, possibly for other musical projects.
Sort of like Brian Eno meets Aphex Twin.

Brain Eno indeed was the first guy who found the basics of ambient music. The funny thing is he claims to be a non-musican but as u see...u don't need to be a well performer for the beginning nor do u need the insight in music theory (such studying it in the university or any music school). Everything comes from the praxis. U automaticaly shape ur style, ur performer abilties & as also ur ears for more complexity in all directions.
I don't know if many people will contribute because all they easily could sample is what happens arround or inside their room where the computer is u know. Those who would do u a favour by recording the outside would need a portable device such a laptop but with a good external soundcard & respectable microphone or a Dictaphone etc... What i would love to do is to travel arround the globe & capture all the nature sounds that we know or not. For example Steve Roach did record arround his former farm (in 98) the very moment of the desert night, where it get's absolutely silent & all the animals such the cricket or any reptile animal stop slowly their sound. For Example listen an demo on http://www.steveroach.com/Music/discogr ... ?albumID=8
Ur Project is very interesting but u know this is a lifetime-work as u never will be able to satisfy ur hunger of sounds. And u will also meet arrogant musicans who wouldn't even share a single sound with others to let them have a little piece of the cake aswell. So for such projects ....my advise don't count too much on people as only on urself & ur record device u will use to hunt for one or ohter noise around, inside the house or even on the road, in a natural park, Zoo, Shopping streets etc...

I already have a few contributors from other sites, but I was hoping to have some friendly people from the Tron community to lend a hand. The other contributors are strangers to me that happen to be interested in the project. The tracks that I have constructed with their submissions are pretty interesting and I can't wait for people to hear them, but I would like to get the whole thing together and release it all at once. My initial goal was to have around 100 people involved from all over the globe, but I think I set my sights a little high. Right now, I'd settle for a dozen.
And remember, it can be anything at all. It can be part of a speech, static, animals, a piece of music, someone breathing, etc.

Well u can have my permission to use my water patch we spoke about before. Basically i plan to use it for a special album project but as even this is a common thing to get programmed (reminder Jean Michel Jarre) why shouldn't other artists make use of it too.
Besides i can recommend Xtreme FX from USB Soundbank. This is a sampersynth with alot's of ambient nature, electronic, urban, human sounds etc... So u will find also common sounds that happen in & outside ur room. Of course i know...what u would prefer is the impulse of a dozen or even 100s of men & women who give something recorded from their life to ur production. Big difference but it can't hurt to have an alternative left for the case it will be too slow for u & u no longer want to wait.
