At first I wasn't too excited about Crysis. But the more I see of it, the more I like it.
One thing is for sure. No other game on any platform can touch the graphics in this game. All the 360 and PS3 fanboys are going to be crying that their systems don't have the best graphics. And if Crytek does end up doing a port of Crysis to the consoles, the console versions will never be as good.

The way those jeeps tumble and blow up is great, and the sunset image with the orange lighting effect on the environment & player really is cool. Nice fire too.
It said it's from the Far Cry folks. Needs a nvidia 6600 or better. I checked graphics cards out and i'm totally amazed by the increasing performance you can get with a new high end card compared to the year or two old one I've got (6800)
http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics_ ... &chart=277 which is 7x slower than the best out there. And I thought this card was working great with all these games I've been trying. Makes me wonder if you only run 1280x1024 if it's worth getting anything significantly better, aside from some DX10 effects I suppose. I'm wondering if new games can meaningfully even utilize the new cards performance at these moderate resolutions, maybe given that PCs are probably bottlenecking everything anyway.

Yup, it is coming from the same pps making FarCry, mainly two brothers here in germany with just a handful of graphicers and developer. They already shown with FarCry that you can produce astonishing games without even crying 'it is all soooo expensive'. Their new creation is totally blasting. Beside of Bioshock another reason to increase my system *sigh*.

I just watched a video that someone recorded from the Single Player Demo of Crysis that was just released. And even though the graphics are in DX9 mode instead of DX10, all I have to say is HOLY CRAP.
This is a huge video, so be prepared for a lengthy wait.

The characters in the cutscene? By far the most realistic I've seen in a game yet. They even beat out the ones in the Half-Life 2 series.
I don't know about the gameplay, but Crysis sure piles on the pretty. Maybe next month I'll actually have a rig capable of playing it at a decent clip.

Yea, I just d/l it, and much to my suprise, (that is
if the MP is a suprise) it's amazing. screenshots:
The difference in these games from experience, is getting sniped by Anderson in BF2, he's on wide screen, I'm not. if I'm shooting at him, he at me, he's shooting 1 foot + on my body, inside a corner of a wall, I'm obviously not. It's not fair, but that's how it renders for him.
At the right resolution, the game is better.
Again, the screens say nothing about a
multiplayer but nonetheless, I autoconfig'ed my video, it set it to low. fine, it looks twice the realism, of what thier other games looked.

Hmm with my new pc I can run this pretty decently, when I autoconfig'd the game set everything to very high, but I think it got a little excited there, I was getting around 10-20 fps. with most of the settings on high, some on very high and one on medium it runs pretty well, at 1280x1024 with 2x AA.
It's pretty fun just running around in a boat or whatever shooting whole forests down and blowing stuff up.

Hehe, I'll be joining the ranks of Crysis players soon as well. I've already got most of the parts I need to build a new computer. It won't be an absolute screamer of a system, but it will definitely be decent by today's standards. I built this system on a budget, and managed to spend less on this one than any other one I've built in the past.

Excuse me? You step onto my turf with your palette of colours? And sound as well? You think that a C64 is worth a damn (here's a clue: It ain't)? How 'bout a vic 20? No? Mr Amstrad take your fancy? pfffffftttt.
Now back off. This Sinclair ZX80 with 1K ram is mine, and mine alone, so go weep, Mary Jane. I have a PDP 11-70 as backup.
pah! Kids. Bet they can't even program in Fortran IV. Or COBOL. Or 6502 assembly. Amateurs, the lot of them.

I've been trying to get my hands on an atari 800 for awhile now - neat machine made for games. I've been wanting to try Star Raiders on it since I was a kid. Any of you ever have one?
