LDSO site was attacked

In case anyone visited yesterday, you probably noticed the forum was down. This was because we were trying to repair the damage done by an attack. Zook_One alerted us to it, but at first it didn't seem like anything was wrong. Then, later, we discovered that we indeed had been attacked.

We've repaired the damage, and everything should be back to normal today.

I noticed that. I have even been blocked from logging in to the LDSO forum at work. It was strange.

Turns out there is something wrong with the Wiki. It's not working 100% correctly any more. If you try to download files from the Downloads section, a lot of them don't work. There's also some other features not working right. Seems the Wiki isn't fully repaired after all.

I'll try to figure out what's wrong and fix it, but in the meantime if something doesn't work right: now you know why.

Well, as you all can guess, our site was attacked again and we had to repair the damage once more. Eliminating every trace of the infection has proved difficult. Hopefully this time we've managed it!

We sent our elite forces on to the grid to wipe out the infection. They have returned victorious! Hopefully the infections do not send reinforcements! If so, we will be ready for battle! Tb)

Do you have any idea who would want to attack this particular site? The community is small enough as it is.

We don't think the attacks were targeted specifically at us. Other sites at our hosting company were attacked at the same time. It was a case of spammers trying to insert their ads into every site. Thankfully, as far as we can tell, we've finally managed to lock them out.

I checked out the registration page, seems to have a weaker captcha technology, might want to look at recaptcha.

I have the Carrier rezzed up for pursuit, and all Logic bombs, and Recognizers are stowed for transport, everyone upload!

Now... lets go get em!

Actually, ReCaptcha is considered a poor choice according to what I've read. Spammers have already figured out how to bypass it. Peoplesign is supposed to be better. A new updated version of Peoplesign is available for our forum software and could be installed.

Regardless, a different CAPTCHA solution won't help against these attacks. We're working on finding a solution, because these pests keep attacking. For now, we're keeping them out, but a permanent solution is needed.

There's a new scientific american article on this, I think it said the best yet was a series of questions to figure out if the registrant was human or not, you could just make up a few, and they probably wouldn't even have to change. Maybe that's not the route of the problem your having now.

Maaan, I'll believe it when I see it. All I've been seeing for the past cycles are permissions being reduced and tightened security everywhere. I swear, it's really bottlenecking the efficiency of this sector...it'll only be a matter of time before I'm given less priority to reduce system latency. T-[
