Man, I should know the answer to that, but I'm not sure any more. I think it was because he wanted to settle down on "Fiji" (a paradise colony) with his cat, and hopefully Kochanski. He was working there to save up enough to make the trip, and to bag Kochanski.
I loved Red Dwarf. Though I think when they did the reset and brought the ship back, that's when the show was pretty much over already.
Basically, I think I'm a British SF nut . . . I've enjoyed just about all of the shows you guys have exported. Doctor Who, Space: 1999, Tripods, Hitchhiker's Guide, Red Dwarf, and so on.
Examples of shows I'd still like to see (but haven't yet) are Blake's 7, The Tomorrow People, The Prisoner, and Sapphire and Steel.
Anyone have any other recommendations?

UFO, yeah . . . there's one I haven't seen either. It was sort of the predecessor to Space: 1999, I think.
And yeah, Tom Baker still owns. Eccleston and Tennant have both been pretty good, but they'll never beat out Tom as the overall fan favorite.
My favorite Doctors list goes something like this:
8. Sylvester McCoy
7. Peter Davison
6. Paul McGann
5. Colin Baker
4. David Tennant
3. Christopher Eccleston
2. Jon Pertwee
1. Tom Baker
I didn't like the way Colin Baker played the Doctor at first, but once he settled down I thought he was very good. A shame that his time as the Doctor was rudely cut short by the BBC. Hated his outfit, though.
I haven't included William Hartnell or Patrick Troughton, because I haven't seen enough episodes from their eras. I've only seen a handful of both.
Jon Pertwee is right behind Tom Baker as my favorite. I loved the whole "exiled to Earth" arc and his working with UNIT. He was the James Bond Doctor. . Always doing lots of action stunts and vehicle chases.

I do like Tennant, but I liked Eccleston better. Tennant is a bit too manic for my liking. He's like a subdued Colin Baker, but not subdued enough.
There was a recent poll where Tennant was the first to beat out Tom Baker as the favorite Doctor, but it was only by a hair. Still, anyone who thinks Tennant is better than Tom Baker is obviously smoking crack.
Yeah, I can't wait for the start of the third series. I heard a rumor it might be as early as next month, but somehow I doubt it.

Yep. Good list there, Tronfaq and I agree with it
I'll have to watch some of the new series with Tennant in to judge for myself but he'll have to be pretty good to top ol Tom.
Oh yeah, On the Red Dwarf thing. Lister was on the mining ship Red Dwarf because he was trying to get back to Earth and it's all he could afford to get on. He was stranded on Mimas after waking up from a Monopoly board pub crawl on Earth.

Full history on Lister is here but *Warning* does contain spoilersWikipedia wrote:According to the books by Grant Naylor, Lister went on a drunken Monopoly board pub crawl with his friends to celebrate his 25th birthday, where he got very, very drunk — when he awoke, he was on Mimas, one of Saturn's moons, wearing a lady's pink crimplene hat and a pair of yellow fishing waders, with no money and a passport in the name of "Emily Berkenstein", and a worrying rash. Lister, determined to make enough money to get back home, steals "hoppers" (the equivalent of taxis on Mimas) but he loses all his money after being attacked by a drug addict, hooked on the drug "Bliss". Penniless, and tired of living inside a luggage locker, Lister signs up for a job on the mining ship Red Dwarf, which was due to make a mining run to the outer solar system, and then back to Earth. He barely qualifies for a place on the ship, having only one GCSE — in Technical Drawing, which he failed.

Ripstar: ! I never knew that. I thought his main motivation for being onboard the Red Dwarf was to get to Fiji. I guess that came later.
Daddyo: You had one too? I had an Eagle toy as a kid. It was pretty awesome, and had detachable nuclear waste drums. Hope they were safe?
Anime: All right, I've got to check out Blake's 7 then. I keep hearing good things about it.

Ya an Eagle model kit, those were bitchin! I really want to see some of those shows again. My brother had a Galactica model ship from Battlestar Galactica, I played with that alot hehe.
I took few pictures of models in front of bluescreens, and double-exposed them with some kind of star background thinking that would work. Kinda did. I also had a model of the Enterprise that had light bulbs inside. Instead of plain bulbs though I took the fiber optics from a christmas tree topper and ran it all around the models "windows" to light up the ship. Got some photos somewhere...
Thanks for the Dwarf history lesson Ripstar!
