TRON 2.0 Now Available on Steam!

Post by TronFAQ »

I don't believe it! TRON 2.0 for PC just showed up on Steam today!

http://store.steampowered.com/app/327740/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I guess I'll have to buy the Steam version now, and check if all the LDSO mods will work properly with it.

Also, now I have to try and work even harder to get Killer App Mod v1.2 done ASAP. This has taken me completely by surprise. I wasn't expecting TRON 2.0 right after TRON Evolution. I thought the situation was kind of hopeless on that front.

I wonder if they updated it at all, for new online master servers etc.

That would be a definite no. They just applied the Official v1.042 Patch to the game, and dumped it on Steam. Multiplayer is still broken because the game is looking for GameSpy, which is gone.

I was able to get all the patches/mods working, though. Including the current Multiplayer fix. I have a better MP fix coming as part of Killer App Mod v1.2.

That surely has been a whacky and rushed release. As soon as I saw it coming up on the frontpage of Steam, I knew that Disney wouldn't have done anything to make it run better.

Having to hack the registry to bypass CD key checks nobody needs anymore is really bad.

When I look at other titles like System Shock 2, were fan-made patches and unofficial engine fixes get included to make it run on modern systems and then compare it to this...well, it makes me sad. With a proper release, more people would play Multiplayer :(

But it forced me to get off my lazy ass and fire up 6 servers that run 24 hours a day. :-) Including almost all of the custom maps. Let's roll! T-]

I bought this copy today because it's cheaper than buying an optical drive for my latest gaming PC. Also, it's less than 7$ until New Years.

Hopefully the source code for Tron 2.0 is still out there. Because It would be interesting to see the game multiplatform and to see what they could do with newer DirectX updates would be fun aswell. Now with this steam release it could be very much possible. (Although only if valve pressures disney enough assuming they have the source code to begin with.)
There is a method to my madness. And madness to my method.

Disney probably still has the full source code. They may have used it to update the TRON Game launcher, to remove the CD check on it for the Steam release. (Then again, they could just as easily have grabbed a No-CD crack and used that. T-p)

But, they'll let it rot rather than release it. Since they already released TRON 2.0 to Steam, with no real updates, I doubt they'll ever do anything with it again themselves, either.

There's only a remote chance that maybe GOG.com will produce an updated version of TRON 2.0, some day. I hope we can work with them to have the mod support GOG's version, if one ever gets released.
